Finding photographers : Johnny Joo Photography

I find myself always on the look out for other photographers that I find interesting. A photographer that I have been following for a while is Johnny Joo. I came across his work using Facebook and was fascinated by his images.

He is a young photographer from Ohio (1) who not only photographs landscapes but also urban exploration, and this is how I stumbled across his work. I have even previously used one of his images, with his permission, as part of my research in Assignment 1.

I find his urban exploration images particularly pleasing. His website shows a lot of his urban exploration work. Joo manages to capture not only the beauty of the spaces he photographs but also the emptiness and deterioration of the them.

This image is the kind of work Joo produces in the genre. He has framed the images perfectly to highlight the essence of the space yet he manages to capture a lot of the decaying detail too.

But Joo also posts some beautiful landscape photographs, including this image. I find his landscape work always emphasises the colours of the scene remarkably and he always makes wonderful use of the available natural light.

Definitely one to keep and eye on. I believe he has he first published book out soon.
