Exercise 5.2: Print Quotes

This exercise is just to enquire as to how much companies charge in regards to printing images professionally.

Companies offering inkjet printing:
Semaphore
Digitalarte
Digitalab

Companies offering C-type printing:
Genesis Imaging
Metro Print
The Print Space

The print space offers both types of printing. For an 8x10 C-type print they charge £5.30 per print and then £6.81 for the same size as an inkjet print.

Metro also print both types. For an 8x10 C-type print they charge £5.25 per print and then £7.00 for the same size inkjet print.

Digitalarte will also charge £7.00 for an inkjet 8x10 print.

I will be actually printing images for assignment 5 so I will ponder over the printing standards when I have decided whether to present my assignment in colour or black and white. - edit -  I have now completed the quotes to print my 10 images for assignment 5. To print them as 10x8 inch inkjet images it would cost £79.90. I have decided to go for the C-type printing, purely as curiosity has gotten the better of me and i would like to see for myself the difference between the final prints. This comes to £49.98, £63.88 when you include tax and postage.

I think nowadays Inkjet printing is the norm. Most people will have an inkjet printer in their homes and will think nothing of printing out family snaps and considering them as photographs. To be honest, up until now, I had never heard of C-type printing. Obviously there are different qualities of printers and print paper so there is a vast difference on how prints are seen dependant on this. During a previous course, I had a problem with printing. I had used a high street printers who my tutor felt hadn't done my black and white images justice and had asked me to explore printers. I took another two printers to get my photos to a decent quality and laying them all out in front of me, I could clearly see the differences. But yet they were all still inkjet prints. I don't see why they cant be treated as a photograph.
