I have looked at two slideshows on Magnum in Motion, Bongo Fever and Tsunami streetwalk 1. Watching Bongo Fever was difficult but probably due to the context of the presentation. The fact that the photographs were put together with background noise and interviews gives the images more impact as opposed to having a simple piece of music. The viewer is given facts of the effect of the evidence being shown in the images and that gives us more of a factual insight. I think it gives the images more of a documentary theme. This is added to by the inclusion of continual shots of a scene which are then placed together to create the effect of a moving picture which isn't a video. I think this is an effective way to present this kind of article. When you watch video pieces you can get lost in the noise or the busyness of the scene. This way allows you to really ponder the images. You have control over how long people can actually look at the images during the show and you have the ability to freeze and zoom into certain details which can really emphasise your point.
Tsunami streetwalk 1 is more of a slideshow but still packs a huge punch. This is a simplistic slideshow with a dramatic outcome. The music is simple yet sounds almost ghostly which fits perfectly with the context of the images. The before and after images together always gives a big impact so to have them moving across the screen allows you time to see each image and compare them. The inclusion of a select few facts to highlight the extent of the destruction really hits you as you see the visual evidence. Plus the sheer volume of images also emphasises this fact, as well as shows why this medium of presentation is good. There are no fancy or intricate effects. It's plain and simple yet effective to get the point of the images across. This proves a very successful method of presenting this collection.
I am still not really keen to create my own slideshow. I'm not sure how I would want to go about it and then the added stresses of including the quotes as well as incorporating music. It's not something that I would like to complicate myself with right now. But i'm not going to rule it out in the future.
