Exercise 4.3: A subjective voice

I was born and grew up on the South Wales coast, in an area once travelled through by William Gilpin during his 'Observation on the River Wye and several parts of South Wales', and still live here today. My view on the landscape has always been pretty conventional with regards to beautiful green countryside as well as striking coastlines. But as stated during assignment 3, my local area is bustling with history and the scars left behind on the landscape, particularly castles. So my photography started with landscapes of sunsets, castles and coastlines mostly.
Today, these are probably still my favourite things to photograph.

My experience with the landscape has always been purely leisure, taking holidays or walks along the coast or day trips to country parks, even as far back as playing in woodlands and open fields as a young girl. But the historical factor has always crept in, whether it being the numerous selection of castle ruins, stately homes or war time bunkers.
So my subjective view of the landscape is probably just the space itself. I enjoy visiting places and just photographing things, whether natural or historical. I don't specifically set out to capture breathtaking views of the landscape, a la Michael Kenna,  I have been known to photograph urban spaces as well as including people in my images. however, I'm not saying that I wouldn't like to. My photography around the landscape is more by chance as opposed to specifically thought out projects. The subject changes by way of where I am and what activity I'm undertaking.
